All too brief visit to Edinburgh. GLoS visit June 2026
I was in England to attend the communication meetings of Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons and it transpired Grand Lodge of Scotland was meeting in the same week. This was an opportunity I could not miss so I arranged to attend the meeting. I travelled to Edinburgh by train. It was very comfortable, surprisingly cheap and only took four hours. A memorial service was held Saturday 20th June 2026. Malcolm Kriehn Memorial service. From Friday 19th June, through to the service on Saturday 20th, Malcolm’s family and friends toiled to create an impressive service at Grey St both in the foyer plus the temple and refectory . Bro Jim Lyne - Memorial Service was held 2 May 2026
One of the great stalwarts of Lodge Ponsonby No.708 recently passed, leaving us with teary eyes and fond memories. Brother Jim Lyne was the epitome of a true freemason … always present, always giving his absolute best effort and always fun to be around. Jimmy is remembered for his hands-on contribution to refurbishing the Scottish Masonic Centre at 59 Grey St in Onehunga in former times, as well as his generosity in personally paying for regalia for the Lodge more recently.

Ponsonby 708 - Travelling Gavel moves on again - till next time.
Last night at Lodge Ponsonby 708SC we hosted the Travelling Gavel challenge. Eden Lodge 1530 EC successfully challenged with 8 visitors including WBro Kenny Palisoc. It should be noted: That the Eden Lodge donated the sign in desk, used at The Scottish Masonic Centre, in 2023 The next meeting of the Eden Lodge 1530 EC is the 24 th of March.

The Travelling Gavel - (Again) Held by 708
Reclaimed from its temporary holders a Cohort of Lodge Ponsonby Brethren Led by RWM Kidston returned the gavel to Lodge Ponsonby 708 where it was on display during the Installation of Bro Euan Allan. Here it shall reside until lifted by another muster of brethren from a visiting lodge. Have you heard of the TRAVELLING GAVEL ?
