Three years ago, the Scottish Freemasons in the North Island of New Zealand sponsored Mackenzie Loudon, a young piper who was showing a lot of promise.
Recently Mackenzie joined one of the top pipe bands in New Zealand, the Manawatu Scottish Pipe Band. The band have just won the New Zealand Championship and are shortly off to Scotland to compete in the World Championships. As if that news wasn't exciting enough, Mackenzie has just been accepted to study at Sabhal Mor Ostaig, where she starts immediately after the World Championships.
As a thank you for the support, Mackenzie made a final visit to Lodge Ponsonby No 708 in Auckland and gave the members a great recital. The hat was again passed around and GBP250 raised. To that will be added further contributions from the Scottish Lodges in the North Island of New Zealand.
